Children's Hospital Boston
Laptop, Jacks, and Toy Soldier
Drake's Story is a small Flash microsite created as a thank-you message for people who donated to the Children's Hospital Boston Charitable Trust.
Using an interactive photo scrapbook as a narrative device, users are taken page-by-page through a child's triumphant battle with cancer.
Produced while employed as an Interactive Designer at mediumbold.
Responsibilities included Visual/Interactive Design, Information Architecture, and Audio Editing/Encoding.
Drake's Story 01
The Flash microsite lives within the Children's Hospital Boston website, and its launch page is styled to match the rest of the website.
A link to the launch page is sent out to users who provided e-mail addresses when making a donation.
Drake's Story 02
Minding the older age demographic of the average user, the microsite features extensive controls for interacting with the scrapbook. Large navigation arrows allow for quick page turns, and a segmented timeline lets users jump to any point of the story.
Audio controls and a playerbar let the user adjust the volume level to their tastes and jump to any point in the page's narration. In addition, the microsite also accommodates more savvy users, who can manually turn each page and view a preview of content to come.

Drake's Story 04
Drake's interview was collected, assembled, cleaned up, and trimmed down into a cohesive story from hours of pre-recorded audio.
A simple, emotional piano loop helps to keep the flow of conversation between Drake and his mother sounding natural.
